(a) How it works

The rotor stores the energy and drives the output.

The system avoids a vacuum chamber and magnetic bearings. It is designed to reduce cost and simplify maintenance.

Kick-start

Solar, wind, or grid power drives the permanent-magnet DC motor-generator, spinning a 600 kg alloyed steel flywheel up to 15,000 rpm.

Hold

A clutch decouples the flywheel from its driver so it coasts above the motor's synchronous speed. The design specifies roughly 50 watts of ancillary load, compared with 300–350 watts in the systems assessed in Dorcasey's internal analysis.

Deliver

The motor-generator reverses to produce Direct Current on demand, giving a usable 9.68 kW for about six hours per charge, with DC or single/three-phase AC output points.
